The Chief Medical Director, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, Professor Bissala Ekele, says the tradition of reward for hard work for staffers’ optimum performance was to encourage more passion and dedication to duty among its workers.

Prof. Ekele bared his mind on Thursday during the 2021 award for workers and institutions that had contributed to the development of the tertiary health Institution.

According to the Chief Medical Director, the reward system was introduced in 2018 to encourage mass participation of staffers, through a committee set up by the Management of the hospital.

He congratulated the recipients of the year 2021 awards for making the hospital proud, saying more would be required from them in the course of their service to the hospital.

Professor Ekele maintained that the post-COVID era has been the best thing that had happened to the hospital, given the proliferation of developments, both in infrastructure and equipment donated to the health Institution, as well as treatment of COVID-19 patients with over 80 per cent management and treatment..

He said staffers that won the yearly award were carefully selected under a committee charged with selecting the best staff and best department.

In his remarks, the chairman of the Board of the Hospital, Dr Sam Sam Jaja, congratulated the 2021 beneficiaries, adding that he was proud of the entire staffers of the hospital as they have done fairly well.

Dr. Jaja urged them to put in more efforts to make the hospital the first among equals in the comity of tertiary health Institutions in Nigeria, saying he expected them to work harder in the coming years.

Staffers from various departments won the best staff award for 2021, including development partners, both local and foreign-based, with their operations in Nigeria.

Professor Felicia Anumah won the overall Best Staff of the Year, as a result of her dedication to duty and commitment to the development of the hospital.

Certificate of awards were presented to each of the award winners, including the development partners.
