A human rights organization, the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) has raised the alarm over alleged plan by two Naval officers to storm the house of a Lagos-based building Contractor, Mr. Anthony Akinjishola, to arrest him.

According to CHRSJ, the plot by the Naval Officers attached to Naval Base situated at Kilometre 22, Badagry Expressway, Okokomaiko-Igbo Elerin (102101) Junction, Ojoo, Lagos State, was to arrest Akinjishola or his entire household should he evade arrest.

CHRSJ alleged that the mission of the two Naval Officers was to recover the N200, 000 debt the Contractor was said to owe one Ogbemudia Godwin.

The group in a statement endorsed by its Executive Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman (Revolutionary Alfa), narrated how the two Naval Officers arrested Akinjishola on June 23,for being indebted to Ogbemudia to the tune of N200,000.

“The victim (Akinjishola) was kept incommunicado for many days at the Naval Base and was forced pay the sum of N80,000 to Ogbemudia on July 7, 2021, as well as to sign illegal undertaking, under duress, before he was released.

“The two Naval Officers have been threatening the Contractor and were planning to take their lawless action to the next level by invading the residence ofMr. Anthony Akinjishola in Lagos this coming weekend to park all his belongings if he failed to bring the sum of N120,000 before Friday, 17th December, 2021,” the group alleged.

CHRSJ further alleged that the Naval Officers also planned to arrest all members of Akinjishola’s household if they did not meet him at home during the planned invasion.

According to CHRSJ, the Naval Officers, by their action, have converted the Ojoo Naval Base to a debt collection centre in matters concerning civilians.

Comrade Sulaiman described the action of two Naval officers as illegal, unconstitutional, irresponsible and unprofessional, promised that his group would forward a formal petition on the incident to the Chief of Naval Staff requesting him to set up a probe panel to look into the matter; and report same to the Inspector General of Police for urgent investigation.

He, however, called on security agents in Lagos State not to treat the threat of to the life of Akinjishola by the Naval Officers with levity in order to avert any breakdown of law and order in the area this weekend; while calling on the Nigeria Police Force to fortify security around Mr. Akinjishola so as to save his life and that of his family members.
