Governor Umahi
By CHARLES IWUOHA
Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State has frowned at the squabbles and infighting that erupted between the Management of the State University and the local branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Umahi expressed his displeasure at the institution Permanent Site on Monday when he paid an official visit to the institution.
“The mistake both parties are making is to be looking on government on everything
“The crisis in Ebonyi varsity must stop. You cannot be tackling Management and you expect something to work,” he said.
He reiterated that the infighting was unnecessary stating there is no need for squabbles between the Management and ASUU
The Governor extolled the Management of the university for the giant strides recorded by the institution, noting that the university has improved its ranking in Nigeria and the world.
He said that the two new universities established by the State Government would be self-sustaining.
Speaking against the backdrop of the Single Campus System proposed by the government for the university, Umahi said: “I support the Single Campus System. We should begin to look inwards. Multi-campus system creates divergent policies in the different campuses. Single Campus System saves cost.”
Earlier in his address, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Chigozie Ogbu, said that the institution has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with one of the centres of National Space Research and Development Agency (NSRDA).
Ogbu said the MOU will bring collaboration between the Agency and Ebonyi State government
Governor Umahi was accompanied on the visit by members of the State Executive Council, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly Hon Francis Nwifuru, Special Assistants and top government functionaries.
