First Lady Aisha Buhari
By ABUBAKAR YUSUF
Nigeria’s First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, has commended the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) office for its interventions in the country’s healthcare system in a bid to actualise the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Mrs Buhari made the commendation during the commissioning, on Thursday, of the first Diabetes and Endocrine Centre in the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital Gwagwalada, built by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs in collaboration with her office.
The wife of the President said her office is committed to the wellbeing of mothers and children particularly at this critical period of COVID pandemic.
“I am happy today that this project is now realisable and the first of its kind in Nigeria, it is built by a woman, named after a woman and being commissioned by a woman,” she said of the project named after Professor Felicia Anumah of University of Abuja.
While saluting the courage of the Senior Special Adviser to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, on the timely completion of the project, the First Lady eulogised her determination to provide quality healthcare through her interventions.
She assured the global body in Nigeria of adequate utilisation of the new structure and its equipment, while urging it to continue to assist the country in this regard.
Aisha Buhari appealed for quick action on the establishment of the centre in the remaining geo-poltical zones in Nigeria, so as to ease the treatment of the prevalent disease of diabetes and endocrine.
