Biafra Nations League (BnL) has claimed responsibility for the recent hoisting of Biafra flag in front of the ‘Welcome to Bakassi’ entrance, in Cross River State, a boundary area with Akpabuyo leading to the Peninsula under Cameroon Republic.

A statement signed by the Operational Commander of BnL in Bakassi, Ita Bassey, refuted reports that the action was carried out by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Bassey in the statement made available toNews Expressby e-mail over the weekend, insisted that Bakassi has been the operational headquarters of the BnL.

The BnL members, allegedly armed, had barricaded the entrance to Bakassi after chasing security agencies whose checkpoint was a stone throw from the arena.Their action caused traffic in the area before troops arrived and dispersed them.

Protests have since rocked the town after some persons came out in a video to denounce Biafra.

BnL is a separatist group, which some time in the past, engaged in violent activities with Cameroonian Forces.

They are calling for a Biafran republic which includes Bakassi and other areas in the defunct Eastern region.

The leader of the group is Princewill Chimezie Richards and Ebuta Akor Takon, with an indigene of Bakassi, Linus Essien, as Chief of Staff.

They carry out activities at mostly Cameroonian border towns in Cross River State, Bakassi Peninsula and Akwa Ibom State respectively.
