By ARUGA JOE OMOKARO, Lagos
The secret behind the successful raid of 106 Marshal Navy said to be on illegal training by the Lagos State police command has been revealed.
Investigations revealed that Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP) Hakeem Odumosu rounded up the 106 illegal Marshal Navy personnel after secretly planting a detective among them.
The detective was said to have registered as a Marshal Navy and was undergoing the training with them.
Investigations by The SUPREME revealed that CP Odumosu who got hint of the illegal training directed his Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of Operations, DC Ahmed Kontagora, to ensure that the Marshal Navy personnel were rounded up without hindrance.
DC Kontagora in accordance with Odumosu’s directive planted a detective in their midst, who disguised as a member of the Marshal Navy.
Investigations further revealed that the Marshal Navy were on illegal training at a hidden field near water side in Ogudu a suburb of Lagos State.
The DC on gathering adequate confidential evidence on the operations of the illegal Marshal Navy personally led a combat squad that rounded them up.
Few days to the operation, the detective was asked to withdraw from the training. “He was not told the reason why he was asked to withdraw,” our source revealed.
The source also disclosed that “we didn’t want our strategy to leak,” adding: “Even the Area Commander Area H, and senior officers including those from headquarters were not told the exact operation we were going for. Some thought we were going to raid Okada riders.”
The SUPREME also gathered that, as early as 6am the day they were rounded up Marine Police had stationed their boats along the water to ensure that none of the Marshal Navy personnel would escape.
The operation, which started at about 11:00 a.m., lasted for less than an hour.
The Marshal Navy on interrogation were said to have claimed that they had applied to the Federal Government for approval, but that approval was yet to be received by them.
CP Odumosu could not be reached to know if they will be charged to court for illegal military training.
