As the fear of another one week sit at home declared by IPOB griped residents of Enugu metropolis, some traders in the state have demanded for palliatives to cushion the effects of the lock down.

A visit to some areas in the metropolis showed that many residents of the state trooped out to stockpile foodstuffs in their houses due to the proposed lock down

There was traffic along major roads in the city as motorists were stocked on the road for hours as a result of people traveling outside the state as well as those that came to various markets to buy food stuffs and other items that will last them for one week if the lock down eventually commence on Friday as proposed by IPOB.

It would be recalled the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) announced to lockdown the entire Southeast from November 5 to 10, if its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is not released unconditionally before November 4, 2021.

This is also coming as the governorship election in Anambra state holds on November 6, 2021, a situation that has sparked anxiety in the region.

A trader at Artisan market in Enugu, Onyekachi Ogbu said the one week long sit at home will make things difficult for them

“Many of us depend on the little money we make in the market daily to feed our family, so if the one week lock must hold government or whoever declares the lock down should give us palliative to survive,” she said.

Also another trader, Nkechi Onu who also kicked against such lock down called for government intervention to stop any group enforcing such lockdown, saying it will only cause more hardship to the people “especially traders like us that feed from our daily sales,”
