The National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) has sworn in the new Commissioner representing the South East, Rt Hon Nwoha Amaechi.

Speaking during the swearing ceremony, the chairman of the NASC, Mr. Ahmed Kadi Amshi, said the long expectations of appointing a new South East National Assembly Commissioner has now become of thing of the past.

He noted that this has reduced the burden of leadership of the geopolitical zone, which hitherto rested solely on Senator Julius Ucha, a Commissioner representing the region.

Kadi bared his mind during the swearing in ceremony in Abuja of the newly appointed Commissioner, for the region, Rt Hon. Amaechi who hails from Imo state.

The chairman maintained that the wider gap occasioned by the vacant position was filled by the efforts of the Commission and that of Senator Ucha.

He said the efforts, even though slow, ended with positive result with the recent appointment of the second Commissioner, Rt Hon Amaechi.

Amchi assured the new Commissioner of cooperation to enable him succeed in his new assignment both to the region and the nation.

He commmeded Senator Ucha for taking up the challenge alone for over one year, saying it showed his ability and capability to deliver on the mandate that justified his appointment.

In their separate remarks, Senator Ucha, who is representing the South East and Awalu Aliu Ohindase of the North Central spoke on the high and great expectations from the new Commissioner owing to his wealth of experience, while they expressed joy that he has finally joined them at the NASC.

Ucha continued: "I am the happiest person today. I had the pain of being 'an orphan' for almost two years here. It was a terrible experience been alone here and doing the job of two Commissioners."

He assured him of maximum cooperation and guidance to enable him succeed in the new assignment.

Responding, Rt Hon Amaechi, appreciated the solidarity of his colleagues from his nomination to assumption of duty, promising to put in his best.

"I am happy joining a group that is friendly, progressive and cooperative.

"I am here to learn, and to also contribute my own quota to the developement of the legislative service in particular and the nation at large," he said.

Nwoha was a member imo state House of Assembly from 2003-2011. He rose to the position of Speaker of the House of Assembly in 2011.

Born in September 1965, Nwoha who, hailed from Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo state is a legal practitioner of many years experience.

He was also Special Adviser, Legislative Matters to Imo State Governor 2011-2013, and later rose to Chairman, State Independent Electoral Commission,(ISIEC), 2013-2018 before his new appointment as Commissioner, National Assembly Service Commission (NASC).
