APGA National Chairman Victor Oye
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
It was jubilation galore in the camp of former Central Bank Governor, Prof Charles Soludo, following the judgement of the Kano Division of the Court of Appeal today, Tuesday, August 10, 2021, affirming Chief Victor Oye as the authentic National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the ruling party in Anambra.
Supporters of the former CBN Chief had upon receipt of the news of the judgement broken into wild jubilation at the Soludo Campaign Headquarters in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
The supporters were seen taunting supporters of factional APGA governorship candidate, Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji, while hailing themselves for putting him (Umeoji) in his place.
Oye and Jude Okeke (whose faction produced Umeoji) had been locked in a power tussle over the APGA national chairmanship.
Oye had appealed the Jigawa State High Court judgment which earlier favoured Okeke as the chairman of the party.
In Tuesday’s ruling, the Court of Appeal, Kano Division, insisted that the Jigawa court had no jurisdiction over the matter. It consequently nullified the June 30 judgment of the Birkin Kudu Division of Jigawa State High Court which erroneously sacked Oye as the APGA National Chairman.
In a unanimous judgment delivered Tuesday morning, the appelate court disagreed with the lower court which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Mr. Jude Okeke, its faction of the party and their “purported” gubernatorial candidate, Umeoji.
The judgement authenticates the primary election conducted by the Oye-led executive that saw the emergence of Soludo as APGA’s governorship flag bearer.
