Yusuf Buhari, Zahra Bayero and a Hisbah operative
The Hisbah Police in Kano has reacted to the gown worn by Yusuf Buhari’s fiancee, Zahra Bayero, to her bridal shower held in Abuja on Tuesday.
The gown hadgenerated reactions on social media with many Nigerians calling out Hisbahover its silence on the outfit which some perceived to be immoral for a Muslim lady.
SomeTwitterusers who reacted to the viral photos of Zahra in the gown pointed out why she got no criticism from Hisbah which is known to enforce Sharia precepts in Kano, including alcohol ban, ban on prostitution, indecent dressing, and so on.
According to them, she’s not from a poor home, being the daughter of the Emir of Bichi in Kano who is about to get married to the son of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
In an interview withBBC Pidgin, Hisbah through Sheik Harun Ibn Sina said Zahra is not above the law.
He said the bride-to-be ought to lead by example if she wants blessing in her marriage.
This is as he criticised those sharing photos from the bridal shower on social media, saying it is a sin to do such.
OneOnyeabor Joseph Flexy onFacebooksaid, “So why didn’t you go and arrest her? But if it were to be a nobody that did that by now you would have paraded her, double standards everywhere. Oga if you know you can’t do anything, you better keep quiet or better still resign your appointment.”
Iveren Susan said, “I was reading through to see if they have arrested her for committing this great crime, but no, they won’t. The law is always for the poor.”
Ande Isaiah MhenuTer said, “Is he supposed to criticise or to arrest her? You didn’t criticise others, you arrested them. Coming out to talk because of the backlash you received confirms your hypocrisy. If they born you well; go and arrest her. This Sharia law is truly meant for the poor!”
