Delta SUBEB boss worries over primary school teachers wage bill

The Executive Chairman of Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Comrade Elijah Ologe, has said that over bloated wage bill of primary school teachers and collection of illegal money from pupils are worrisome developments in the state primary education sector.

Ologe who made the revelation during a meeting with Heads of Personnel Management (HPMs) in the 25 Local Education Authorities (LEAs) in the state, also warned the HPMs not to issue conversion and inter cadre transfer letters without authorisation to staff.

Ologe who was visibly worried by the over the development in the LGEAs, pointed out bluntly that such actions run counter to the constitution of the board and as such should be jettisoned in all its ramifications.

The SUBEB boss disclosed that illegal conversion and inter cadre transfer of workers without due authorisation contributed to the over bloated wage bill of primary school teachers’ salaries in the state.

While saying that all conversions and inter cadre transfers should be based on the approvals from the Board (SUBEB), Ologe further warned that any one cut in such fraudulent practices would be punished according to the law.

He stated that the recent reshuffle of HPMs in all the LEAs was geared towards sanitising primary education in the state by eliminating sharp practices in the primary education sub-sector of the state economy, just as he urged them (HPMs) to be alive to their responsibilities

Responding on behalf of the HPMs, Rev. Monday Enaruvbe thanked the management of the board and pledged their total commitment to their duties
