There is a local unpopular saying in Nigeria that most gullible people always whisper in a cacophonous manner that “when you make your money, spend am as it pleases you.” Well, when you make tons of cash from the efforts you've put in over the years, you wouldn’t want the random thoughts of mere mortal to tell you what to do with it. In most cases, most successful people of the present generation all have one financial advisor or the other and we can also call them multi-billionaires, if the case may be or not.
Today marks a glorious day in one of the towns that have produced more billionaires in south-eastern state of Nigeria. Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, they say, has more billionaires than some other parts of Nigeria. Although there is no proper fact-check as to that claim but Oba, where a certain night-lifer hails from, is celebrating the burial of his mother and that witnessed the influx of numerous friends from all walks of life; and they were all squandering and splashing raw cash like it’s a rainy day that flooded Marina, Lagos, and some other parts of Lagos State respectively on the same day.
This lingering issue of show-off is a pertinent matter always arising, like how it’s done in most night clubs where underage young boys that has made money either legally or illegally splashes the money in the air like someone without the necessary concomitant for hard work. Mr A can never tell Mr B how to spend his hard-earned money, hence he can only advise him on how to buy investments. So, either Mr A adheres to such advice to increase him and still on the flipside decreases his wealth; and not even listening to any of the advice at all with his wealth being stagnant or increases over time, depending on the choices/decisions he makes.
The world is watching and, most especially, the international community steadily depicting Nigeria as poverty capital of the world and seeing these sets of self-acclaimed billionaires flaunting wealth in public when the most citizenry are hungry.
The fact is undisputed that the said burial has indirectly employed hundreds if not thousands of people that as well all have families to feed; and, economically speaking, the gestures automatically boost the country’s GDP.
