Bandits have stormed Faru, a village in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing 35 farmers, according to police.
The state police command spokesperson SP Muhammad Shehu confirmed the incident on Friday, saying: “35 persons lost their lives as a result of the attack by Bandits in the area on Thursday evening.
“A joint task force comprising military, police, NSCDC have been deployed to the area and normalcy has been restored right now.”
But an eyewitness, Aminu Maradun, said the bandits raided the town on Thursday evening and began shooting people, adding that 39 persons, mainly men, were trailed to their farms and killed.
“The bandits were said to be on reprisal mission following the arrest and killing of two bandits by the group of vigilante Group along Mafara- Faru road who were arrested with two AK-47 riffles on Wednesday.
“The dead bodies were buried according to Islamic rights after today’s Friday prayers around 3pm,” he added.
