BNL Chief of General Staff, Linus Essien
The Biafra Nations League (BNL) has stated that the dot in a circle in which President Muhammadu Buhari described the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) is not covering the group.
Rising from its executive meeting in Bakassi Peninsula, Tuesday, Chief of General Staff of BNL, and Leader of Displaced Bakassi Peninsula Youths, Mr. Linus Essien, said no circle is surrounding BNL. The group accused Buhari of limiting Biafra to the five South-East states excluding other areas in the old Eastern region that fought for Biafra Republic including Igbo indigenes of South-South as against the original map of Biafra, while describing Buhari as a joker who lacks powers to decide where Biafra is and where Biafra is not.
According to the Bakassi Leader, there was Eastern Consultative Assembly which consulted the people before Biafra was declared, adding that Biafra and Igboland are different in terms of landmass. He said Igboland is in Biafra, while Biafra is situated in the Gulf of Guinea and cannot be blocked from accessing anywhere.
He dismissed claims that only the Igbo want Biafra, explaining that the BNL are mainly indigenes of Bakassi Peninsula, Akwa Ibom and Cross River State, with strong presence around the Igbo-speaking areas in Rivers State and Delta State. He said that the people of Bakassi Peninsula are now well informed and are sacrificing a lot for the struggle just to be free while accusing the Federal Government of abandoning the Greentree Agreement ceding them to Cameroon
Essien added that the remnants in the Peninsula are facing torture everyday by Cameroon authority. He said there is enough reason the BNL won the support of Bakassi people for Biafra Republic, and vowed that even if Ijaws and other areas feel that Biafra will be landlocked without them, that they should know that with the presence and operations of BNL in the region, Biafra is already in charge of Bakassi Peninsula.
“With the level of sufferings in Bakassi today, our people are ready to give their lives for Biafra Republic, we can't continue to face torture from a foreign country, even the Nigerian government have abandoned the Greentree Agreement so why should we not back Biafra to secede when we know that if we succeed, sovereignty over Bakassi would return to Biafra and entire Efik people,” Essien said.
He said the BNL is capable of sabotaging the maritime activities of both Nigeria and Cameroon in the Gulf of Guinea, adding that they have access to anywhere, both at the Ejagham land borders and the Peninsula and can acquire anything they want through their areas of influence. He warned President Buhari not to threaten Biafra agitators with war because the people in the Gulf of Guinea are wise enough not to be used against the secession of Biafra as it was done in 1967.
He recalled the Marua Agreements between Nigeria and Cameroon over Bakassi Peninsula, adding that the BNL has all it takes to destroy the presence of the Federal Government in the Peninsula.
The BNL Leader also disclosed that since the group banned vessels from entering Nigeria through the Peninsula, none has been seen since May 30 even though the security presence in the region has increased.
