The National President, Ohanaeze, Youths Wing, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to call for dialogue, describing it as a veritable means of restoring peace in the nation.

The call came on the heels of a recent statement by the President in which he alluded to having carved out a way to tackle agitations in the Southeast.

Okpalaezeukwu said youths have freedom to protest or engage in agitation as a way of expressing their rights, urging government or institution concerned to listen to their prayers.

He added: “The President should extensively use psychology and standard communication techniques in responding to the agitators.

“As youths, meting out violence on them cannot be the solution, but fair hearing and proper dialogue can restore peace that we have been enjoying in the nation.”

While condemning in strong terms all acts of violence among the youths, he sued for peace and peaceful co-existence.

The Ohanaeze youth leader added: “Government cannot continue to turn deaf ears to the voices of the oppressed, we do not have to remain mute in the face of injustice.

“We therefore urge all aggrieved parties to sheath their swords and give chance for dialogue.

“I want to reaffirm our resolve and commitment to peace, stability and development in the southeast, Igbo land and Africa in general.”
