Gunmen
By HOPE ABAH EMMANUEL
Gunmen have attacked a Principal Special Assistant to Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom on Government House Administration, Dr James Anbua, at his country home, Tse-Girgi, Mbavuur in Logo Local Government Area.
The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday.
Anbua was attacked barely 10 hours after he gave out his daughter in traditional marriage at his country home.
Witnesses said the gunmen rode on three motorcycles to Anbua’s residence in the village around 1:30 am on Sunday and directed gunshot at his home.
The witnesses said the security on guard engaged the gunmen who retreated and later came back 30 minutes after and opened fire on the house again, this time, tearing the roof and some blocks apart.
“In the end, the gunmen took cows away. We were however glad that no life was lost but many people who were still in the house celebrating as Anbua gave out his daughter in marriage were injured,” a witness who didn’t want his name on print said.
Anbua, a former Commissioner for Agriculture in the state confirmed the incident to newsmen in Makurdi on phone.
He said the incident occurred around 1 am, noting that the gunmen did not gain entrance to his rooms but they made away with his 17 cows and nine sheep.
He thanked God for sparing his life and that of the people who came to celebrate with his family during the wedding ceremony.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Catherine Anene said she was not yet aware of the incident as of the time of sending this report. *Credit:(Daily Trust) excluding headline
