Soldiers arrest man for disrupting Abuja Council Polls

A young man was yesterday arrested by soldiers for allegedly disrupting voting during the council elections in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.

The man, whose name could not be ascertained, was nabbed at Yenchi village in the Kuje area council.

A roving News Express correspondent who monitored the election became curious when he saw the young man with soldiers who were on patrol to ensure that the election went peacefully. On enquiry, our correspondent was informed that the man was arrested for trying to prevent people from voting.

Unlike some other parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), there was a large turnout of voters in Kuje except in Polling Unit 2.

Investigations by News Express showed that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will likely win the council.

The election was peaceful in Kuje and throughout the FCT but turnout was poor in most areas, with people blaming it on lack of awareness.
