PFN President, Bishop Wale Oke
The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has advised the Presidency to direct its attention to the immediate issues of insecurity and socio-economic morass in the country fuelled by acts of injustice, rather than being distracted by rumours of impending coups.
The PFN said religious leaders were more concerned about how the government should address the bourgeoning grievances in the country and were not interested in a change in government.
This came from Bishop (Dr.) Joseph Ajujungwa, CAN Secretary, 17 Southern Region, and Secretary, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), South East Zone, on Saturday, while reacting to the Federal Government’s claim early this week that it had uncovered a plot to topple Muhammadu Buhari as president.
“There’s no call from religious leaders. I cannot talk of the politicians; if they want the government to be toppled, it’s their business, but religious leaders are calling for equity and justice.
“Everyone knows that marginalisation is the order of the day. Everyone is clamouring, agitating.
“Everyone is calling for security measures to be put in place; no one is interested in toppling the government, even the politicians know that if the military comes in, they are not safe,” he said.
He continued: “The National Assembly has the duty to impeach or not to impeach.
“There’s a clause in the constitution that gives them the right to checkmate the president. So, the accusations against religious leaders, especially Christian clerics, cannot be substantiated.
“We are praying for the peace of the nation, but at the same time calling on the government to save lives and property of the people, which are under serious threat in the hands of bandits and gunmen terrorising the entire nation.
“The problem of Nigeria is solvable and we must not be like other collapsed nations of the world because we have the ability to contain any attack against the nation, we have the resources, and we have the manpower to do even more.
“Finally, let Mr President unravel the identity of the gunmen, the sponsors of Boko Haram, and let the killer herdsmen be brought to justice.” (Independent)
