APGA chieftain, Prof Soludo
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
The chairman, Anambra Demands Soludo Group, Chief Jude Emecheta, has queried the rationale behind the recent assassination attempt on ex Central Bank Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo on Wednesday, May 31, 2021.
The APGA frontline contender was in a meeting with youths of his community in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State when unknown gunmen stormed the venue, killing three of his police aides.
Emecheta who spoke in Awka said that since the former CBN boss made his gubernatorial ambition public, he became the subject matter of every discussion even among co-aspirants.
He described him as a strong contender in the forthcoming governorship election in the state, saying that he (Soludo) is a good market that would sell well under any political platform.
Emecheta added: “Soludo did not offend anyone by nursing the ambition to become the next governor on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). He contested 2010 under the platform of PDP but did not scale through, before he joined APGA and helped to build the party.
“I am not surprised that Soludo is the topic of discussion because other aspirants see him as a big threat to their aspirations. That is the reason for all kinds of sinister moves and malevolent plots to truncate his ambition.
“A lot of aspirants are looking at how to make money from the markets for their selfish personal interest.
“Others have the impression that if Soludo becomes the next governor they will not go back to the House of Reps. We know them because they are being selfish about the whole thing.
“We have told them if you go to the primaries and lose, please don’t disrupt the system. Accept the result in good faith because APGA is one family.”
The APGA said that though some people hold the opinion that Soludo is not a grassroot politician, that he did contest election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2010.
He explained that the ex CBN Governor has plans to make Anambra a cooperative outfit where every facet of the economy will tap into the resources of the state to help in creating more wealth and opportunities for all and sundry.
“People should stop pulling Soludo down because he already has the blueprint of how he intends to make Anambra state a smart city, if he becomes the next governor.
“The opposition is scared of Soludo and his being the cynosure is a welcomed development because whenever his antagonists discuss him, they discuss a potential governor.
“Only Soludo can successfully manage the international cargo airport, the international conference centre as well as other legacy projects of the present administration of Governor Willie Obiano.”
