Police operatives in Anambra State have arrested two persons suspected to have been involved in clashes between rival cult groups in the early hours of Sunday, March 28, 2021, along Ifite Awka, Zik’s Avenue in Awka South LGA.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed that two unidentified male were killed in the clash while bodies have been deposited in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Tochukwu said that adequate security have been put in place to forestall further escalation of the incidence, while full-scale investigation to determine the culpability of two persons in police custody, saying that effort to arrest fleeing members of the cult groups has commenced.
Meanwhile, police operatives attached to Okpoko Division have arrested four male suspects for alleged burglary/house breaking into living rooms, shops, malls, among other crimes.
Other offences include snatching of bags, phones, other personal effects, amongst other acts crime and criminality.
The suspects include Obumneme Ugwu age 24, Uchenna Udeh, (25), 19-year-old Ani Amechi and Isreal Isaac (21).
The statement partly reads: “Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects are members of a notorious criminal gang that has been fomenting trouble in the area for some time now. However, discreet investigation is ongoing to arrest and bring to book other members of the criminal gang on the run.
“All the suspects would be charged to court on conclusion of investigations.
“To this end, the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Bala Kuryas, while reiterating the commitment of the Command not to spare unrepentant criminal elements in the State, has enjoined Ndi Anambra not to hesitate in providing useful and timely information that can assist the Police in its operations.”
