Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, this afternoon visited the scene of the tanker explosion at the Idimu area of the state.

The governor expressed shock at the disaster and commiserated with the victims.

News Express had this morning reported how property worth several millions of naira were lost in the overnight inferno that resulted from the explosion.

The inferno, which started around 11 O’clock last night, and was caused by two tanker drivers struggling for the right of way at top speed, one of which lost control and fell, spilling its diesel content into the drainage.

The fire raged until the early hours of this morning when it was eventually quenched by men of the Lagos State Fire Service.

Men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), the Nigeria Police, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) also arrived promptly to assist and to undertake rescue operations.

The incident happened three days after a tanker loaded with fuel veered off a bridge at the nearby Iyana Ipaja around 12:58 a.m. and exploded, burning a line of shops covering over 50 metres by the road side.
