Late COOUTH CMD, Dr Basil Nwankwo

The Anambra State Government has expressed sadness at the passing of the Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH) Amaku, Awka, Dr. Basil Nwankwo.
A statement on Wednesday by the Secretary to Anambra State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, said: “Governor Willie Obiano is saddened by the unfortunate passing of Dr. Basil Nwankwo, who performed creditably well as Chief Medical Director (CMD) of COOUTH.
“Dr. Nwankwo has been in the frontline saving lives since the outbreak of COVID-19, together with his colleagues at Amaku, Anambra state Ministry of Health, and other partner agencies.
“The state government is in touch with late Dr. Nwankwo’s family and wished his soul eternal rest.”
Professor Chukwulobelu used the opportunity to announce former Commissioner for Health in the state and current Chairman of Governing Council, Anambra State College of Health Technology, Obosi, Dr Josephat Akabuike, as the new Chief Medical Director (CMD) of COOUTH.
Also appointed is Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, the Executive Secretary of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), was announced as the new Chairman of Anambra State College of Health Technology, Obosi. He is expected to combine the two roles.
According to the SSG, the appointments are with immediate effect.
