Late Louis Ngozi Dilibe
A former chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Enugu State Council, Sir Abuchi Anueyiagu, has described a two-time Chairman of the state council, Mr. Louis Ngozi Dilibe, who died few days ago, as “a very kind and generous man who would leave his own personal problems and took upon himself the burden of other people.”
“Louis despite what some people might consider his excesses or weaknesses, Louis Ngozi Dilibe was a caring, kind and generous person.
“He never abandoned genuine cause but sees to the end of it,” Sir Anueyiagu said Tuesday in his tribute.
Anueyiagu, who is also a former Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Enugu State Council, described Louis Dilibe as “dear friend and compatriot” and “a kind and generous fellow who would forgo his own personal problems and took it upon himself the burden of another person.”
He further said: “Despite what some people might have considered his negative side, which was his private matters and not made for discussion because it’s his private life, which made him happy anyway, he was a man of his word.
“The greatest mistake Louis made in his life was picking up, against all wise counsel, the one who currently holds NUJ top position in the country and making him a zonal president of the union then, a decision that he never came out of the terrible consequences, which one could say took him to his untimely death.
“He became very frustrated by the betrayal and opposition because his beneficiary/godson fought him till death.
“In NUJ today, people with contested and doubtful tertiary education acquisition are holding highest positions, a bizarre story paradoxically having the support of people questioning other people’s level of education in other spheres.
“Dilibe may have been made our frustration by the godson of his to become so despondent, despairing and disgusted that he didn’t survive the condition which lingered for some years and compelled him to flee home, a place where he lived for some time till he died.
“He was a jolly good fellow before frustration set in.
As you know, Louis was a friend like a brother and I have no regrets whatsoever associating with him. I will never forget one of his popular anecdotes, ONYE SI NA NSHI ABUHO OGWU, YA KPUKORO YA RAA (ANYONE THAT SAYS THAT FAECES IS NOT POISON SHOULD LICK IT), implying that anyone that does not see a bad act as wrong should have wrong things happen to them and let others consider it right. Louis was a true friend like a brother. I thank God he remained a friend till he died.
“May he rest in the bosom of the Lord. Amen.”
