Akwa Ibom inaugurates multi-billion naira projects to mark 2015 Democracy Day

Akwa Ibom Government has inaugurated some life-touching projects worth billions of naira in commemoration of 2015 Democracy Day and send-forth ceremony of Governor Godswill Akpabio.

The projects inaugurated by Governor Akpabio are Drainage Line/outfall stretching from Akwa Ibom International Stadium to Mbikpong Ikot Edim in Ibesikpo Asutan, Aka-Etinan Road, Phase I of Uyo-Ikot Ekpene Road, Gas Station and automobile Repairs Workshop, Government House, Uyo.

Speaking at the site of the Drainage Line/outfall at Mbikpong Ikot Edim, the commissioner for Works, Mr. Don Etim said it was one of the projects of the Akpabio administration covering 4.6 kilometres and handled by Julius Berger Construction Company.

Chief Akpabio hinted that the project was completed four months ago behind the contract period, noting that it would not have been a proper thing to have a dualized road without a proper drainage system.

At Aka-Etinan Road, the Commissioner for Works said the project was handled by Raycon Construction Nigeria Limited and spans 11 kilometres expansion which is 16 kilometres on single with one bridge.

The governor who congratulated the Akwa ibom people for having a focused leadership resulting in an uncommon transformation of the State said the road has opened the area to greater economic opportunities.

At Uyo-Ikot Ekpene Road, Don Etim hinted that the road built by Julius Berger Construction Company has 11 culverts with street lights.

He explained that the project that the project was one of the Federal roads meant to open the state to economic opportunities, saying of the 25 kilometres a total of 11 kilometres of the road had been completed for inauguration.

Chief Akpabio was happy that his administration was changing the life of the people through the provision of people-oriented projects, but attributed delay in completing the road to dwindling revenue resources.

The governor remarked that he was looking for a day the Federal roads from Uyo to Aba, Calabar and Umuahia would be competed to ease transportation problem facing the people.

Akpabio later inaugurated the Gas Station and Automobile Repair Workshop at Government House, Uyo where he advised users to make effective use of the facilities.
