Military imposes 24 hours curfew on Maiduguri following Boko Haram attack

A 24 hours curfew has been imposed on Maiduguri, capital of Borno State in Nigeria’s North-East. The curfew was announced this morning by the 7 Brigade of the Nigerian Army. It came hours after Boko Haram terrorists last night launched an attack on Ladi Kayamla, a community located near Maiduguri.

News Express reported the attack late last night, including how it was effectively repelled by gallant Nigerian troops. The terrorists had detonated two female suicide bombers ahead of the attack, which took place from around 6pm and lasted for at least two hours.

“The attack, which was apparently diversionary with the intention of slowing down the ongoing assault on Sambisa Forest, is believed to have been carried out by those escaping from the terrorists’ locations that have been routed or destroyed,” said a report by PR Nigeria.

It quoted the Director Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, as confirming the incident, adding that normalcy has been restored as the troops conduct mopping up of the area while the offensive on all terrorists forest locations continue.
