University of Ibadan probes student’s death, moves to improve health service delivery

Management of the University of Ibadan (UI) has reacted to the recent demise of a 200 level student of the institution’s Department of Health Education and Human Kinetics, Faculty of Education, Mayowa Alaran, saying it was regrettable.

According to media release by the Directorate of Public Communications of the institution, which was made available to News Express, after series of meetings with representatives of students and consultations with relevant stakeholders, management constituted a special committee to look into the remote and immediate causes of the death.

However, recommendations on improvement of health service delivery in the university would be among topics to be deliberated upon during the inaugural meeting of the committee, scheduled to hold at the council chamber of the institution.

Members of the committee include: Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) chairman; Dean, Clinical Sciences; Hall Master, Independence Hall, and Director, University Health Service.
