The sitting Head of Civil Service (HCS) of Akwa Ibom State, Mrs Cecilia Udoessien, has been named as the chairman of a nine-member committee by the state government, to handle issues arising from payment of salaries and other entitlements by an appointed financial institution in the state, the Skye Bank.
Other members of the committee are, the Special Adviser on Labour Productivity and Public Service Matters, Mr. Godwin Udom; Permanent Secretaries in the office of the HCS, Ministry of Finance, and Department of Establishments.
Also serving on the committee are, the State Accountant General; Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), President, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), President, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Akwa Ibom State Councils and the regional director, South South 1 of Skye Bank Plc, Mrs. Emem Ekong.
Inaugurating the committee on behalf of the state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio (CON), Mrs. Udoessien, said the committee was set up on the directive of the state governor, arising from the resolutions reached recently between the government, the state NUT and NULGE, prior to the suspension of the strike actions embarked upon by the two unions.
Commending the regional director of the Skye Bank and her team, so far, the HCS stated that “the setting up of the committee will assist the bank further to perfect on its assignment, and thus resolving seeming challenges the workers may encounter in the course of receiving their salaries and other allowances.”
Meanwhile, a new chairman had also been appointed for the State Civil Service Monitoring Committee. She is Mrs. Eno Offiong, the Permanent Secretary in the office of the HCS.
Members of the reconstituted committee are Pastor Nicholas Ekarika, Permanent Secretary, State Budget Office; Mrs. Stella Etokakpan; Mr. John Offiong; Comrades Effiong Ekarika and Udo Udo Isong, who represented the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria and the Nigeria Civil Service Union respectively, while Mr. Jackson Akpan, of office of the HCS, serves as Secretary.
