Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, has deployed three National Commissioners and three Resident Electoral Commissioners to conduct today’s supplementary elections in Abia State.
The Head, Voter Education and Publicity of INEC in Abia State, Edwin Enabor, who confirmed the development to News Express, said the six officials were being expected in Umuahia yesterday.
It was gathered that their mission is to ensure that the supplementary poll, holding in 299 polling units across nine local governments, was conducted in a free, fair atmosphere.
The INEC top officials are also expected to prevent a reoccurrence of the circumstances which led to withholding of results of the governorship elections conducted in the state on April 11, 2015.
News Express also gathered that necessary arrangements had been put in place as INEC had assured that all was set for the rerun..
It would be recalled that INEC in Abia State declared the governorship election held in the state inconclusive and ordered a supplementary election to produce the eventual winner of Abia guber race.
