Director of Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has distanced himself from alleged fraud of $2 million in connection with the monitoring of the March 28 presidential election lost by his party’s candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan.
A report in yesterday’s edition of the Abuja-based Peoples Daily newspaper had claimed that Fani-Kayode misappropriated funds for the setting up of situation rooms across the 36 states of the federation supposed to have been used to monitor the said election with a view to protecting PDP’s votes.
However, “the publication is nothing but unfounded wanton criminal allegations borne out of dirty politics,” Fani-Kayode’s attorneys, Ahmed Raji & Co., said in a letter yesterday to the publishers of Peoples Daily.
In the letter signed by Anone A. Usman Esq., the law firm complained bitterly about the content of the story entitled ‘Femi Fani-Kayode in $2m Election Monitoring Controversy’.
The former aviation minister demanded a retraction of the story with an apology on the paper’s front page in addition to “a substantial offer for damages within seven (7) days of the receipt of this letter.”
