Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Umahi, has condoled with the Nigeria Police and the families of the four policemen who were killed by armed robbers in the state on Wednesday.

The four police escorts were conveying money from neighbouring Enugu to Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, in a bullion van when unfortunate incident occurred along Ezzamgbo junction in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.

Apart from the slain once, two sustained varying degrees of injury and are now receiving treatment while the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary.

Umahi in a statement on Thursday signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Francis Nwaze, assured Ebonyians that everything is under control.

He said: “It is with great sadness that I received the news of the death of our dear servicemen who died yesterday while serving our dear country, escorting bullion van from Enugu to Ebonyi. The loss is a big blow on our corporateness which the culprits will never go unpunished.

“I heartily commiserate with the families of the deceased police officers and the Nigeria police in general, praying that God grants them the fortitude to bear this colossal loss."

“Let me also assure the public that the Ebonyi State Police Headquarters is already giving all efforts, harnessing all available intelligence to bringing the culprits to book as they have tightened the boundaries against the entrance of hoodlums.”
