Ohanaeze Ndigbo General Assembly President General, Basil Onyeachonam Onuora
By PETER BAHAGO, Abuja
A Socio-Cultural Group, Ohaneze Ndigbo General Assembly has called on the Nigerian Government to establish South East Development Commission in a bid to fast-track development in the region.
The President General of the Group, Mr. Basil Onyeachonam Onuora, made the call in an exclusively interview with Voice of Nigeria in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
“The need for the establishment of the South East Development Commission cannot be overemphasised. The South east zone of Nigeria deserves a development commission,” he said.
Mr. Onuora also said the establishment of such developmental agency would help to address the problems of insecurity, infrastructural development, youth unemployment, poor health care facilities and abandoned projects.
Meanwhile, he disclosed that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, has fixed October 26, 2020 to hear the suit instituted by the group against the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, in Nigeria.
He explained that in the suit, the group alleged rights infringement by the agency and asked the court to make an order for the respondent to award damages to the tune of five hundred billion naira against the CAC for the infraction of the plaintiff’s right to freedom of association. (VON)
