Alleged rapist Ikechukwu Ekenta
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
A 43-year-old man, Ikechukwu Ekenta, has allegedly raped his three-year-old daughter, Kamsiyochukwu Ekenta.
It was gathered that the suspect, an indigene of Ikeduru-Ogwah, Mbaitolu Local Government Area of Imo State, raped his daughter on April 28, 2020 when his wife who put to bed was still in the hospital.
Narrating her ordeal, little Kamsiyochukwu said: “My daddy put his komkom (penis) inside my private part while I was asleep. I was woken up by a sharp pain.”
Speaking at the Professor Dora Akunyili Woman’s Development Center, Awka, the alleged rapist, Mr Ikechukwu Ekenta, said that he was pushed by an evil spirit to lay his child.
He said: “I got carried away when the urge came. Whenever the spirit came, I will start behaving abnormal and that very day, I used my finger to defile the girl as the urge came.”
Giving insight of what she encountered when she returned from the hospital, the suspect's wife, Mrs Uzoamaka Ekenta said she noticed sharp pain from her child while bathing her and on enquiry, discovered that her husband had defiled her daughter.
She said she immediately asked her husband what transpired and he admitted committing the atrocious act.
“I took my daughter to the hospital where it was noticed that he used his penis instead of his hands as he claimed.
“I complained to the parents of my husband but they threatened to deal with me if I dare tell it to anyone, until the whistle blower came to my aid last Saturday.”
Speaking to journalists, the state Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, said that she and her team moved immediately to the suspect’s residence at 3-3 area in Onitsha upon receiving the information.
According to her, men from the Director of Security Services were also in the team that arrested the rapist, adding that the suspect will face the full wrath of the law.
While expressing sadness at the rate of defilement of children in the state, Mezue described the action as an abominable act which is condemnable in all ramifications.
She lamented that the child was still in pains.
