The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has given a cash reward of N2 million to the police operatives that foiled a lone armed robbery attack on Monday in Awka.
The suspect, Chukwuemeka Afor, 25, who was later arrested by a police team, was said to have stormed Regina Caeli Junction along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Awka, wielding a pump action gun and shooting sporadically into the air before snatching a bag of money containing N3.5 million.
The police officers included three Inspectors, four Sergeants and one Constable attached to the Department of Operations and MOPOL 29 PMF, Awka.
Doling out the cash award, Obiano said that the gesture was aimed at boosting the morale of the police officers, while encouraging others to emulate them.
The Governor's wife, Chief Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano, also donated four bags of 50Kg Rice to the police operatives.
According to statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Haruna Mohammed, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. John B. Abang, thanked Governor Obianor and his wife for motivating the officers.
“The CP said the gesture will go a long way in boosting the morale of the officers and encourage them to redouble their efforts.
