Director of Media and Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation (PDPPCO), Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has written to All Progressives Congress (APC) National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, demanding N5 billion for alleged libel.
A letter to Lai Mohammed from Fani-Kayode’s solicitors, Ahmed Raji & Co. Abuja, alleged that the libel was committed in a statement issued yesterday in Dubai by the APC Spokesman and published on page 6 of today’s edition of The Nation newspaper entitled ‘We’re Concerned About Femi Fani-Kayode’s Mental Status’. The statement, according to Ahmed Raji & Co., suggested that Fani-Kayode is mentally unbalanced for claiming that APC vice presidential candidate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, swore an oath to resign for the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to take over after six months in the event of the party winning the March 28 presidential ballot.
“We demand that you withdraw the said statement and render an apology to our client within seven (7) days of the receipt of this letter,” Fani-Kayode’s solicitors said in the letter signed by Whyte Prekunomaa.
“You are also to enter into negotiation for damages as we have firm instruction to claim Five Billion naira damages against you,” the letter further said, adding: “Take notice, therefore, that it will amount to a specious gamble on your part, if you treat this letter with levity.”
