Abolurin preaches peace at World Civil Defence Day

The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Dr. Ade Abolurin joined his counterparts throughout the whole world to mark 2015 World Civil Defence Day, preaching peace.

World Civil Defence Day is an annual event which comes up every 1st of March and observed by Civil Defence formation across the globe. This year’s them is ‘Sustainable Peace-Building’

Dr. Abolurin congratulated the Secretary-General of International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO) and the entire Civil Defence family all over the world for the successful hosting of the2015 World Civil Defence Day.

He encouraged citizens across the globe to show love and embrace one another and promote sustainable peaceful coexistence and also shun violence.

He also advised political actors, agitators and co-players to embrace peace towards nation- building as the 2015 general elections draw closer.

“We should continue to exhibit professionalism in all our conducts, patriotism in all our activities, work to ensure peaceful conduct of the elections before, during and after and not to relent in the execution of the Corps mandate especially in the protection of Critical Infrastructure and National Assets and the protection of the Civil populace without compromise,” he said.

Abolurin expressed the corps gratitude to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki (retd) for their total support and commitment towards the enhancement and empowerment of the corps.

He also thanked the Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro for his developmental strides aimed at enhancing the capacity of the corps in the effective discharge of their mandate.

The Commandant-General appreciated the general populace and all other stakeholders for their belief in the corps’ synergy, partnership and collaboration in making the agency to succeed and achieve in the execution of her mandate.

He advised parents to caution their children from anything that could lead to the breakdown of law and order in the society, especially during the forthcoming general elections.

“Thuggery, vandalism, malpractices, violence are inimical to the growth of the nation and they are against the law of the land, therefore they should shun all these vices and embrace peace for peace to reign, for the law is no respecter of anybody; says Abolurin,” he said.

The corps, he added, is fully ready for the elections and all modalities put in place for effective monitoring before, during and after the elections.

Abolurin stated that, deployment had since commenced to all identifiable black spots, promising that with the collaborative efforts of all security apparatus, the elections will be peaceful, credible, free and fair as the corps have since sensitized the electorates, political parties and political actors through the various town hall meetings and peace summits organised.
