Nasarawa Medical Students Association has donated 25 litres of hand sanitiser to the State Health Management Board as part of effort to curb the spread of Coronavirus pandemic.

The students association made the donation when they paid a courtesy visit to the Board Headquarters in Lafia to support in the fight against the dreaded virus that is ravaging the world.

Chief Medical Director (CMD), Hospital’s Management Board Lafia, Nasarawa State, Dr. George Usman Dangana, together with the management received the students on arrival.

President of the Association, Kabir Abdulkarim Agbose, said the group is a health professional association of Nasarawa State students studying various health professional courses across universities within and outside Nigeria.

The professional courses, he noted, include Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Medicine and Surgery, Medical Lab Science, Nursing Science, Dental Surgery, Veterinary Medicine, Medical Radiography, Anatomy and physiology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Optometry.

According to him, the aim of the association is to bring all Nasarawa State students studying various health professional courses across Nigeria and outside Nigeria universities under one umbrella with the objective of providing a foundation for the continuous supply of manpower to the health sector of Nasarawa State.

The group is also designed to complement government efforts at providing efficient, adequate and affordable services especially to the people at the grassroots level while also caring for the welfare needs of its members. Moreover it is serving as a link between government and its members as well as creating awareness on health related matters through outreaches and organising free annual medical outreaches, encouraging and exploring available means for members to pursue post graduate education.

Responding, the CMD alongside directors took turns to appreciate the students for their wisdom and advised them to be diligent and abide by the ethics of their profession at all times. They equally charged them to avoid cultism and exam malpractices.

Reiterating that the issue of bond scholarship is beyond the Board, they promised to take it up with policy makers and the state government considering its enormous benefits to the state, emphasising that all hands should be on deck in fighting the Coronavirus disease.

High points of the visit was the presentation of the sanitiser by the union officials and unveiling of the decision of making the CMD one of their patron,

The courtesy call which took place on 20th May 2020 witnessed a brief meeting that was anchored by the Director Administration and Supplies of the Board Hankuri Namo, followed by opening prayers by the Director Medical Laboratory Sciences, Alhaji Rosha Garba, and director medicals Dr. Akolo Namo, and self introduction by participants.
