A young man who sold his son for N300,000 has been arrested by the Abia State Police Command.

Maduabuchi George Okey was nabbed for conspiring with one Obinna Erondu to sell his son, Chizoba Maduabuchi, aged one year and two months.

The suspect was among alleged child traffickers, armed robbers and kidnappers paraded by the Abia State Police Command today at the Police Officers Mess on Factory Road, Umuahia.

Abia State Commissioner of Police, Joshak Habila, told newsmen that police swung into action and rescued Chizoba following an alarm raised by his mother, Eberechi Maduabuchi.

Mrs. Maduabuchi told newsment that on February 18, 2015, her husband asked her to bath their only son very early in the morning. She said her husband got angry as she disobeyed him and ordered her to do his bidding.

According to her, after bathing the baby, her husband told her that they would take the baby on a visit to the house of his friend Erondu. She said she objected too on the grounds that the day was still young. Thereafter, she said, her husband took the child with him to Erondu’s house.

Mrs. Maduabuchi said that at about 5pm, her husband despatched a car to come and fetch her to Erondu’s house but she insisted she would not go to the place. She said that her husband eventually returned at about 10pm without the child but was carrying a celophane bag which fell off his hand and spilled huge sums of money onto the floor. She said it dawned on her that her husband might have sold their child and she raised the alarm.

CP Habila said the police traced the child to Erondu’s house at Mbutu Umuogwo village in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area and recovered him but that Erondu escaped.
