The streak of accolades for the Chairman of the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, Chief Mayor Nweke, continued last week as the State Commissioner for Technology Development, Engr. Ikechukwu Sunday Umeh, commended him for his leadership strides.
The Commissioner visited the Ngor Okpala LGA headquarters on April 28 with a team of State Government officials, including the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Technology Development, Barr Chris Duru, for the purpose of inspecting the council ICT Centre. He disclosed that the familiarization tour was at the instance of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
He said the exercise became paramount as a result of the temporary closure of schools, with a view to availing the students the opportunity of attending online programmes at the centres.
The Commissioner and his team were warmly received by the Council chairman, Hon Obinna Nweke and other management staff, including the Director of Administration & General Services, Barr E. E Oduah, the Treasurer, Mr. Njoku Livinus and the HOD Planning & Statistics/ICT Centre, Mr. Uba Promise.
Chief Nweke expressed satisfaction with the Governor’s approach to rapid technological development in the state, describing Governor Uzodimma as a capacity builder who has an impeccable vision to develop Imo State in all spheres, including the area of technology.
The Commissioner made a surprised promise to the Head of the security personnel in charge of the ICT centre, promising to change his bicycle to a motorcycle as soon as possible, as a motivational package for his dedication to service.
While expressing delight that the LGA recorded the highest score among all other LGAs already visited for the same exercise, he assured the council chairman that he would approach the Governor for procurement of more computers to be installed at the ICT Centre.
He also assured the chairman that the Ministry of Technology Development will partner with his council to ensure rapid technology development.
In his remarks, the LGA Chairman thanked the Technology Development Commissioner and his team for visiting Ngor Okpala headquarters for the inspection. He expressed his unalloyed gratitude to Governor Uzodimma for marshaling out strategies for the development of technology in the state.
