The Osile of Oke-Ona, Egba, Oba Adedapo Tejuosho, has made a case for traditional rulers’ participation in politics.
Oba Tejuosho made the declaration in Abeokuta, Ogun State, during his 77th birthday.
“I don’t see anything wrong in Obas and other traditional rulers getting actively involved in the politics of the country, because they were the ones in control of politics before the advent of colonial rule”, he said.
The monarch said politicians had failed in their primary responsibility to the citizenry. He, therefore, said traditional rulers should be encouraged to get involved.
The traditional ruler expressed disappointment in the constitutional provision that excludes the royal fathers from playing a major role in the country.
On violence before, during and after election, the Egba monarch advised politicians to shun bloodshed because such action incurs the wrath of God: “My mandate from God is to warn politicians against violence and shedding of blood during the general elections in the country”.
He stated that Nigeria would continue to find things difficult as long as the people fail to do God’s will. Tejuosho, who is a member of the comity of Christian traditional rulers in the country, appealed to all Nigerians to go back to God as a way out of the challenges facing the country.
“If you want the blessing of God you must be prepared to obey his will, while his wrath will descend on those that disobey him,” he said.
