Amosun charges security agencies to be non-partisan during 2015 polls

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has called on officers of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in the country to eschew all forms of injustice and carry out their duties professionally during the forthcoming elections.

Amosun, while receiving the newly redeployed Commissioner for Police to the state, Mr. Valentine Ntomchukwu, in his office on Thursday, charged members of the Force to hold fast to the tenet of the law and operate within its ambit, insisting that this would ensure a peaceful, free and fair elections in the country.

Emphasising that “no one should be above the law,” the governor said: “The police slogan, Police is your friend, should not be a mere statement but must be reflected in all their dealings with the people.

“For me, yes, police is our friend, but this must reflect in their relationship with people. My advice is that once you are professional in your dealing with the people and all the parties, there would be no problems, especially when people see that no one is above the law. We would not tolerate it in Ogun.”

The governor said there has been relative peace in the state since the inception of his administration which made it being named “the most peaceful state in the country” for three consecutive years.

Amosun promised that his administration would continue to interface with the Police and other security agencies in the state to ensure that the peace in the state is sustained, especially in the forthcoming general elections.

Ntomchukwu, earlier commended the governor for his immense support to the force, saying that from the report he was furnished with on arrival by his men, the “governor is police-friendly.”

He solicited more support to the Force to enable it achieve its mandate.
