The Chairman of Sea Horse Lubricant Industry, located in Ihembosi, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, Mr. Ebuka Onunkwo, has donated N10 million worth of relief materials to four towns in the area.

Items donated by the businessman cum philanthropist include bags of 10kg rice, cartons of noodles.

Speaking during the distribution of the items at the industry’s premises, Onunkwo said that the measure was to cushion the effect of the lockdown put in place by the state government.

The lockdown, which was put in place for four weeks, was relaxed on Saturday by the State Governor.

Onunkwo called for the items to be shared adequately among the four communities that make up Ekwusigo, which are: Ozubulu, Ichi, Ihembosi and Oraifite,

He said: “These are some daily income earners and the less privileged, who have found it difficult to feed their families in this lockdown. Each town will receive 500 bags of 10kg rice and 250 cartons of noodles.

“I urge the Presidents-General of each of the towns to share the items to the most vulnerable in communities, irrespective of their political party or religious affiliations.”

The Sea Horse Chairman further urged people to obey the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines and maintain regularly washing of hands under running water, social distancing and staying at home, in order to stay alive.

In his speech, the Obi of Ozubulu, Igwe Nnamdi Oruche, commended the donor, describing the process of distribution as a beginning of re-union in Ekwusigo LGA. He urged other dignitaries to emulate him.

In their separate speeches, the duo of Rev. Fr. Donald Chidolue of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Ozubulu and Rev. Fr. Cyprain Ohagba of St. Anthony’s Parish, Ihembosi, hailed Onunkwo for his act of charity.

They described him as a generous man who had been helping the poor even before the advent of COVID-19 pandemic, adding that he was doing what God required of us.

Also the President-General of Ichi, Mr. Damian Atigwu, thanked the donor, and promised to share the items judiciously to the less privileged in his community.

While assuring that the items will be equitably shared, the Vice President-General, lhembosi Community, Mr. Uzochukwu Okonkwo, thanked the donor for his kind gesture, praying God to pay him back.
