The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, has assured that the forthcoming general elections would be peaceful, free and fair.
He gave the assurance in Sokoto on Monday at a town hall meeting organized by the Justice Development and Peace Commission of the Catholic Diocesse of Sokoto.
“The elections will be successful and free and nobody should flee any part of the country because of the forthcoming polls. Nigerians must continue to have confidence in themselves and trust each other,” he said.
Tambuwal, who is also the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Sokoto State, promised to sustain the legacies of Gov. Aliyu Wamakko, if elected.
He appealed to eligible voters in the state to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and guard them jealously.
In his speech, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto diocese, Bishop Mathew Kukah, appealed to Nigerians to work hard to ensure that the elections were peaceful and successful.
“The wealth of experience of Tambuwal has added value to the race and the forum is aimed at bridge-building,” he said.
Kukah also urged Nigerians to collect their PVCs so as not to disenfranchise themselves. The Coordinator of the commission, Rev. Fr. Victor Mordi, said that the event was initiated to serve as a catalyst for further conversations between communities and the government.
