A policeman who was shot during today’s governorship campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Rivers State in Okrika has died at the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital Port Harcourt, where he was rushed for treatment.
Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, Senior Special Assistant (Media and Public Affairs) to Rivers APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, said in a text message to News Express: “We are sad to announce that one of the gallant police at the ill-fated Okrika rally who was hit by the gunmen’s bullets has just died in BMH PH.”
News Express had earlier reported how explosions and shootings by unknown persons destroyed parts of the buildings at the venue of the rally, National School Okrika.
Two previous attempts by APC to hold the rally at Okrika, the home Local Government of the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, and former warlord, Chief Ateke Tom, did not succeed due to threat of violence.
Rivers APC managed to hold the rally, addressed by Ikanya and the governorship candidate, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, among other party chieftains.
