By JOY ANIGBOGU, Lagos
The elder statesman told DAILY INDEPENDENT on Wednesday that people would not accept another lockdown, stressing that the manufacturing, construction, banking and some essential sectors of the economy must not be lockdown.
He said that it could be admitted that Lagos and Kano States were mostly hit, so federal government should work out strategy to know sectors that should be opened in the affected states, maintaining that Lagos and Abuja in particular would not be able to bear another extension of complete lockdown.
“If there should be another extension, Nigerians would die. The truth is that people are tired. People would die as a result if riot, that is the fact. If you consider what has been happening across the country, Lagos and Ogun States in particular, where gang robbery have become the order of the day, you will agree that a complete lockdown will not be advisable”, he said.
Ezeife said that even if government should do that, some sectors must be opened for the fight against the pandemic to be realistic. He stressed that the was no reason government should talk of complete lockdown across he States, since the states with problems had been identified. (Daily Independent)
