The Anambra State Police Command has busted a syndicate which specialises in snatching vehicles at gunpoint.

The gang of three is said to sell the vehicles after dismantling and overhauling them to evade detection

A statement on Friday by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, named the suspects as Ikechukwu Nwabueze, 38-year-old indigene of Ukpo Mmili village, Ifitedunu, Dunukofia Local Government Area of the state; Uzoma Okani, 26-year-old, a native of Okpolo; and Uzoma Ebele, 29-year-old, native of Abara Okpolo, both in Orlu, Imo State.

The statement partly reads: “On the 3/4/2020 the Command paraded four members of a car snatching syndicate who specializes in snatching vehicles at gunpoint and selling same after dismantling and overhauling the vehicles to evade detection.

“Consequently, discreet investigation by police detectives attached to Abagana division further led to the arrest of another three suspected members of the same syndicate including the gang leader.”

He said that exhibits recovered from the suspects include one golden coloured Toyota Corolla Car with REG No. ENU 158 EQ allegedly snatched from one Mr Ifeanyi Anthony Onuorah, a resident of Blessed Estate Oze, Nkwele Ezunanka.

Mohammed said the car was snatched along Eke Nweje in Ogidi on March 19, 2020.

Other items recovered from the suspects include two firearms even as he added that seven other arrests have been made.
