The Police Commissioner, Akwa Ibom State Police Command, Mr. Gabriel Achong, says the utmost role of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) is to partner the police force in fighting crime and other social vices in the society.
Mr. Achong gave the charge on Saturday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, while swearing-in the new executives of the state PCRC.
The police boss, who was represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dansuki Danfachi, enjoined the new PCRC executives to be good ambassadors of the police and live by example. He specifically told the new chairman of the Committee, HRH Obong J. J. Obosi (JP), a former chairman of Ikot Ekpene Area Command of the PCRC, to “collaborate closely with the police and continue to render selfless service to the nation and humanity.”
Speaking at the occasion, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Etim Dickson, explained that the swearing-in of the new executives was necessitated by the election of the erstwhile chairman of the committee, Brig-Gen. M. Nyoyoko, as the Zonal Chairman of Zone Six PCRC, Calabar, comprising Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi and Rivers states.
Responding, HRH Obong J. J. Obosi expressed appreciation to the police authorities and members of the committee for the confidence reposed on him. He promised to “run an open-door PCRC in the state” and “to carry all members of the committee along” in his administration.
