Feb 14 polls: I reserve my comment until winner emerges —Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, stated that he would reserve his comment on the February presidential election until a winner emerges.

He stated this in Abeokuta while meeting with some monarchs from Egba Traditional Council at a seminar on how to generate wealth from waste.

The initiator of the seminar, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, Towulade of Akinale, told journalists that the programme was put in place to avail the royal fathers the opportunity of learning new ways of generating wealth from waste and transferring this knowledge to their subjects.

Obasanjo stated that he had made enough comments regarding the polls in speech and body language, saying “if anybody is still looking to me for comment, the person probably has not been around for some time now.”

According to the former president, the nation is so endowed with both human and material resources, but he noted that it would take the right people and political will to turn the nation’s socio-economic and political situations around.

The former president lamented a situation where teachers and civil servants were being owed salaries for up to six months, citing specifically Benue State, which had suffered from prolong strike by teachers over arrears of wages.

Quoting from Shakespeare, Obasanjo said: “The fault is not in our stars but in ourselves underneath.”
