Non-indigenes vow to deliver Lagos to Jonathan

A group, South-East, South-South United Assembly (SESSUA), an umbrella body for natives of the South-East and South-South living in Lagos State has vowed to use its huge population to deliver the state to President Goodluck Jonathan, during the forthcoming presidential election.

Speaking at a rally tagged: “Unity Day Rally” in Lagos at the weekend, one of the guests of honour and President of Ndigbo Lagos, Prof. Anya O. Anya, said President Jonathan remained the best option in the election.

The eminent professor of Political Science said Nigerians had been hearing of change but the best change was the one that would move the country forward, rather than take it backwards.

The change that Nigerians need, he said was restructuring, as recommended at the constitutional conference, and which only President Jonathan could implement.

He said about 30 years ago, Nigerians were queuing to buy basic food items like gari, beans and rice, which were tagged essential commodities.

He noted that under President Jonathan, Nigerians had witnessed a lot of improvement in all the sectors of the economy, adding that Nigerians should vote for continuity rather than backwardness.

Also speaking, the President of SESSUA, Chief Oliver Akubueze, said the people of South-East, South-South and other well meaning Nigerians from the other parts of the country had decided to come together to ensure that Nigeria remained united and on the part of progress, adding that it was only the re-election of the president that could guarantee that.

Akubueze, who is also the president, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, West African region, said despite the “pre-meditated distractions” being levelled against the government of President Jonathan through Boko Haram and other forces of darkness to discredit him, he had kept the nation on focus and on the path of progress.

He appealed to “my brothers and sisters of the South East and the South-South extractions in the South-West zone not to forget the main purpose of this gathering which is to drum support for our president for a landslide victory in the South-West zone,” adding: “We have the population and the capacity to make it happen.”

Among those who attended the rally political and traditional leaders from the two geo-political zones among whom include the representative of Chief Edwin Clark, the Osu of Urhobo, Dr Charles Ogodo, the Olotu of Ijaws in Lagos State, John Asoki among others.
