Jega dismisses resignation rumours

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, has dismissed rumours making the rounds that he has wilted under pressure and thrown in the towel, barely 12 days to the country’s presidential election scheduled on February 12.

News Express got across to Jega’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Kayode Idowu, minutes ago, asking him to confirm if his principal has either resigned or is contemplating doing so.

“No” was his answer.

Another senior INEc official who spoke with News Express also dismissed the rumours being spread through some social media outlets.

“It’s true that there are issues, especially with regard to the Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) distribution, but I’m not aware of Jega’s resignation. I understand he is presiding over a meeting right now,” the source said.
