Governor Obiano
The Anambra State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) on Wednesday commended the government of Governor Willie Obiano for the successful hosting of the 12th Biennial Nigeria Police Games tagged ‘Anambra 2020’.
SWAN in the commendation note expressed satisfaction with the facilities provided during the games and the seamless movement of athletes and officials to venues across the state.
The commendation signed by Tony Oji and Patrick Anaso, Chairman and Secretary respectively, reads in part: “It is worthy to note that all the facilities including the newly constructed swimming pool, volleyball, basketball and handball courts were all available for use on the scheduled dates for the various events.
“SWAN wishes to thank our Grand Patron, Governor Obiano for releasing the funds required to stage ‘Anambra 2020’ which has been adjudged as one of the best in the history of the games.”
The sports writers also commended Tony Oli, Chairman of Anambra Sports Development Commission, “for optimal combination of man, money and material to achieve the feat”.
SWAN urged the Anambra Sports Development Commission to build on the gains of the games by ensuring that the facilities are well maintained by making them available for training of athletes in the state.
It further called on the Governor Obiano-led administration to build a befitting Olympic Sports Stadium for Anambra people as a lasting legacy that would spark off revolution of sporting excellence in the state.
While commending the private sector led by Rommy Ezeonwuka, Managing Director of Rojenny Stadium and Games Village, Oba, for their immense complementary roles to the success of the games, SWAN also hailed IGP Adamu Abubakar for approving the hosting of the games in Anambra and CP John Abang, the Commissioner of Police in the state, for the role he played as the chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the games to ensure a soft landing.
